This year we commemorate the first September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 inspired Americans to come together in a remarkable spirit of unity and compassion. It was a stark reminder that our fate as individuals is inherently tied to the fate of our nation. Eight years later, September 11 continues to evoke strong emotion and is an homage to sacrifice and a call to action. In April, President Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which, for the first time, officially recognizes September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This year, on September 11, the President, the Corporation for National and Community Service, MyGoodDeed and the 9/11 families will ask all Americans to remember that Tuesday eight years ago and recommit to service in their communities throughout the year. We encourage you to continue to promote service by commemorating this milestone through the United We Serve initiative.

Wake County Progressive Democrats bring you the movie the insurance industry does not want you to see: Michael Moore's SICKO, a documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories. Even if you have seen the film before, come join our discussion on how to get real health care reform now. Bring your friends that have not made up their mind on the health care debate. Where: Colony Theater When: Sunday September 13th at 7:00pm There will be a panel decision after the movie Cost $5.00 This is a fundraiser for the Wake County Progressive Democrats Trailer: http://www.michaelmoore.com/sicko/trailer/ What the critic's say: Truly a triumph of a filmmaker setting aside personal politics for the larger crisis, 'Sicko' represents Michael Moore's best work to date, and the year's most vital, urgent documentary. Sicko [is] a compelling, tear-jerking look at a vital piece of our infrastructure gone awry ... Moore is our lone avenger, embarrassing the big wigs and speaking for the common man one more time. SICKO is just what the doctor ordered ... Michael Moore's most accomplished film yet. SICKO is a brilliant diagnosis of the U.S. healthcare system ... dishing laughs and outrage in equal measure, this is the rare movie that could actually change our world. | ||
