Linda Gunter, President of Democratic Women of Wake County

Linda Gunter has been active with the Wake County Democratic Party since she attended her first precinct meeting in 1978. Over the past 31 years, Linda has organized four of her precincts, served as Chair of three precincts, and 1st Vice Chair of two precincts. Presently Linda is the 1st Vice Chair of 05-01 in Cary. From 1980-1993 and from 1995 to the present, she has been a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee. In 1992, Linda was elected to the NC Senate serving from 1993-1994 as the second woman State Senator from Wake County and the first practicing classroom teacher to be elected to the State Senate. In 2004 and 2008, Linda was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. In December of 2008, Linda was honored to serve as a Presidential Elector and to be selected as the President of the North Carolina Electoral College.

Since 2003, Linda has served as 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, and 1st Vice President Democratic Women of Wake County. In 2009, Linda was elected as President.

For thirty-one years Linda was employed as a social studies teacher at Cary High School. She was honored as a Fulbright Scholar to Malaysia and Singapore. Throughout her career she was active with Wake NCAE serving as Vice President, Political Action Co-Chair, and as an Association Representative. In 2005, Linda joined NCAE, working as a UniServ with Wake NCAE. Since 2006 she has been employed as a lobbyist with NCAE in the Raleigh office.
