About the Wake County Democratic Party

The mission of the Wake County Democratic Party is to elect Democrats to office in Wake County. We actively recruit and help elect candidates who believe, as we do, in our platform. Our success is reflected in our many Democratic elected officials, including three Democratic Congressmen (David Price, Bob Etheridge, and Brad Miller), the Mayor of Raleigh Charles Meeker and five other members of the Raleigh City Council (James West, Jesse Taliaferro, Thomas Crowder, Joyce Kekas, and Russ Stephenson), six N.C. State Representatives (Deborah Ross, Linda Coleman, Dan Blue, Jennifer Weiss, Grier Martin, and Ty Harrell), and two N.C. State Senators (Janet Cowell and Vernon Malone).

In 2005 we helped elect Eleanor Goettee and Lori Millberg to the Wake County School Board, producing a 5-4 Democratic majority. We also helped elect Russ Stephenson to the Raleigh City Council, producing a 6-2 Democratic majority, and helped re-elect Julie Robison to the Cary Town Council. In 2006 we helped re-elect our three Democratic Congressmen and our incumbent State Legislators, and helped elect Ty Harrell to the NC House, Lindy Brown as Wake County Commissioner, and Lorrin Freeman as Wake County Clerk of Court.

The basic unit of organization of our Party is the precinct. We encourage all Democrats in Wake County to be active in their precinct. We also have many affiliated organizations throughout Wake County who welcome all Democrats. Our office is at 220 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. Please feel free to call, e-mail, or just drop in.
