In Saturday’s News and Observer, it was stated that only 8 emails had been sent to the county commissioners to support fully funding the school board’s budget request. School leaders asked for a $29 million increase in county support for the coming year, but County Manager David Cooke has recommended an increase of only about $12 million.

Info about the school board’s request can be found at:

There is a public hearing on the budget request on Monday June 6th: 2 pm during the regular scheduled Board of Commissioners' meeting at the Wake County Courthouse, or 7pm at the Wake County Commons Building

Thanks to coalition member NC Voters for Clean Elections, who are going to include lobbying reform as one of their two issues (the other issue will be voter owned elections) during their lobbying day on Tuesday, June 7th.

Here is the description of their event from the website. Please contact me at 919-833-0092 if you would like to participate. You can go to either the free breakfast or free lunch, or both, before heading to the General Assembly to talk to legislators. The Southern Wake Democrats meet the 1st Tuesday of each month, Dinner at 6:30 Program 7:00-8:30 pm

After searching far and wide for a meeting location for our June meeting, we've finally decided on the location for the June Southern Wake Dems meeting. I am excited to have Deborah Ross and Linda Coleman as our honored guests. They will be speaking about current issues facing the General Assembly, especially since North Carolina is just shy of a fiscal crisis this year.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, June 7th at Golden Corral on Hwy 70 in Garner. For those interested in eating dinner, we will be gathering at 6:30 pm in the community room. Those interested in just attending the meeting, we will start at 7:00 pm in the community room located at the back of the restaraunt.

If you have any questions or need further directions, please contact Michelle Hall at mhall25@nc.rr.com or 661-1024.

Please note that our July meeting will be on Tuesday, July 5th at Lake Benson Park in Garner. Further information will be available at our June meeting. Also, be prepared to talk after our guest speakers about what we can do as a group to organize the few precincts that are officially unorganized.

I look forward to seeing you on June 7th !
