The Death Penalty Colin Willoughby, Wake County District Attorney, and Jim French, a strong advocate against the death penalty, will address capital punishment in NC at the April 24 meeting of the Western Wake Democrats. Since 1973, 123 people on death row across the country have been exonerated after being wrongly convicted, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. Five of those have been in North Carolina. Currently, 166 people are on death row in the state. Since 1984, 43 men and women have been executed in North Carolina, according to the state Department of Corrections.
