The Wake County Young Democrats will hold their Friday After-work Social at Mitch's Tavern (2426 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC) on May 4th, 2007. The social will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend this event, but memberships to the Wake YD's are available. We hope to make this a monthly gathering of Young and Young-at-Heart Democrats. Progressive Democrats Electoral Campaign Training

Directions to YWCA: Take Business-40/421 into downtown Winston-Salem. Exit off of Business-40/421 at the Cloverdale Ave exit which is also the exit for Baptist Hospital. You'll turn left whether you're coming from either direction, and follow Cloverdale 4 blocks until it dead-ends into Hawthorne Rd. Turn left on Hawthorne, proceed a half-block, and then turn right at the next intersection which is Glade St. Proceed up the hill on Glade St. past the YMCA. After you go around the curve at the top of the hill, the YWCA is on your left. Simply pull in to the parking lot and enter through the main entrance. The staff at the desk will direct you around to the Auditorium. MAP

John Hammond: John Hammond is a retired professor from UNC. He joined the Chatham Coalition Steering Committee in March of 2004 and has coordinated with others the Coalition’s GOTV effort and has done pre-election, voter analysis during early voting and post-election data analysis. All of this work is done using the Pivot Table function of Microsoft Excel, which must be part of the toolbox of all serious political activists.

The Progressive Democrats of North Carolina is committed to the development and implementation of progressive ideals based on human and civil rights, peace, justice and environmental sustainability in North Carolina, the nation, and the world, and to work with the North Carolina Democratic Party to maximize the democratic process, to advocate for the days’ most pressing issues, and to serve as a voice of conscience.

ARTICLE II. Statement of Purpose

The Progressive Democrats of North Carolina pledge themselves to:

(1) Forge a strong, active, progressive Democratic Party with grassroots-based campaign strategies and technologies;

(2) Work for a more democratic, transparent, and open political process within the Democratic Party;

(3) Hold the Democratic Party’s leadership, candidates and elected officials to a greater degree of accountability to the party’s highest ideals in carrying out the party’s policy objectives;

(4) Recruit, support and elect Democratic candidates at all levels of public and party offices; who support social, economic, and environmental justice.

(5) Work for social, economic, and environmental justice together with national and state progressive action groups;

(6) Inspire, involve, and empower progressive North Carolinians to participate in the electoral process;

(7) Advocate and promote progressive policies for the health, education, safety and well-being of the residents of North Carolina.

If you want to volunteer to join the Ed Ridpath campaign or simply learn more about us, please attend our first committee meeting on Saturday, May 12th, 10:00 AM at “Campaign HQ” 800 Oldwyck Drive, Fuquay Varina.

We will discuss the overall campaign and volunteer opportunities, finalize plans for the Kick-off event May 30th, and prepare invitations for mailing.
