"The Next Step toward Voter-Owned Elections" Day.
Thanks to coalition member NC Voters for Clean
Elections, who are going to include lobbying reform as one of their two issues
(the other issue will be voter owned elections) during their lobbying day on
Tuesday, June 7th.
Here is the description of their event from the website.
Please contact me at 919-833-0092 if you would like to participate. You can go
to either the free breakfast or free lunch, or both, before heading to the
General Assembly to talk to legislators. We can contact your local media to let
them know you’re coming to Raleigh. That will give our issue
local press coverage as well:
“On Tuesday, June 7th, NCVCE will be hosting "The Next
Step toward Voter-Owned Elections" Day. The event will be held in Raleigh at the Museum of
Natural Sciences, Level A, at
11 W. Jones Street (across from
the General Assembly). We will have a breakfast briefing at 8:40 am and a lunch
briefing at 11:30 am. Guest speakers include state Sen. Stan Bingham
(R-Davidson), former state Rep. (and former Labor Comm. candidate) Wayne Goodwin
(D-Rockingham), and former state Sen. Wib Gulley (D-Durham).
As you may know, we have achieved a big step forward —
51 members of the state House have joined 21 members of the state Senate as
co-sponsors of the 2005 NC Voter-Owned Elections Act. This bill would provide a
public financing option in the elections of the eight Council of State agency
heads (Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, Attorney General, Superintendent
of Public Instruction, Commissioners of Labor, Insurance and Agriculture). This
means we have 42% of the House and 42% of the Senate on record, on board, for
VOE reform!
