WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
I'm running for Wake County District Attorney because the stakes for our community - and our democracy - have never been higher. We need a justice system that keeps our communities safe, treats everyone fairly, and delivers equal justice under the law. I'm a husband and father of two, and I want my kids - and all our children - to grow up in a community where families are safe and rights are protected. That's why I'm running a positive campaign focused on real public safety, accountability, and trust in our justice system. In Congress, I fought to protect voting rights, defend abortion access, and stand up for working families. Now, I'm bringing that experience home to Wake County - where the decisions of the DA affect people's lives every day.
Direct Quote:
ICE won't get a free pass in Wake County when I'm District Attorney. Recent federal immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota have included multiple deadly shootings of American citizens by federal agents, raising serious questions about accountability and transparency. As District Attorney, I'll use the full weight of my office to hold any federal agent accountable who breaks the law in Wake County. And Donald Trump can't pardon state crimes.
Issues:
Keeping Wake County Safe
Did you know that Mecklenburg County - a smaller County than Wake - has twice as many prosecutors? The Wake DA's Office is stretched thin, forcing victims to wait years rather than months for justice while repeat offenders stay on the streets much longer. When prosecutors are overworked and under-resourced, everyone in our community is less safe. The numbers tell the story: Mecklenburg has 94 prosecutors. Wake has just 43. I know how to deliver resources. As District Attorney, I'll fight to expand the DA's Office, support law enforcement, and keep our community safe.
Taking on Corrupt Politicians
With Donald Trump and right-wing extremists trying to take away our freedoms, the threats to our democracy have never been more urgent. The Wake DA investigates and prosecutes all of North Carolina's political corruption cases because of our position in the state's Capitol. The DA's Office must be independent, fair, and willing to hold powerful interests accountable - regardless of party or position. In this moment we need a District Attorney who will stand up for our rights and freedoms, hold corrupt politicians accountable, and defend the rule of law and our Constitution.
Justice for All
I'm running for District Attorney because justice and safety go hand in hand. I'll take a balanced approach - prosecuting violent offenders, addressing the root causes of crime, and ensuring equal treatment under the law. My goal is a Wake County where families feel safe, victims feel heard, and justice is equal for all. Public safety isn't a slogan; it's a responsibility. I'll work closely with law enforcement and invest in proven strategies that reduce crime and recidivism. Our community deserves a DA who is tough when necessary, smart always, and committed to justice for everyone.
