Candidate Statement:

I am Judge Kevin Boxberger. Throughout my years in the legal profession, I have been a steadfast advocate for the values of equality, equity, and justice within the legal system. Moreover, I am dedicated to fairness and committed to upholding the principles of the law. It is an honor serving the citizens of Wake County as District Court Judge.

At the age of 18, I joined the military soon after high school graduation. I served in the U.S. Air Force as a firefighter and had duty stations that included Texas, South Carolina, and a tour in Iraq. Eager to continue my commitment to public service, I became a firefighter for the City of Raleigh. As a firefighter, I forged genuine connections with members from various, diverse communities while protecting life and property.

I attended North Carolina Central School of Law where I graduated cum laude in 2013. Upon graduating, I continued to serve the public as a criminal defense attorney. I practiced criminal and juvenile law in Wake County for almost a decade. Prior to becoming a judge, I served as a Regional Defender for North Carolina Indigent Defense Services, where I oversaw the court-appointed system in Wake County, Johnston County, Harnett County, Lee County, Wayne County, Lenoir County, and Greene County.

In May 2024, Governor Roy Cooper appointed me to the District Court bench following the retirement of Chief District Court Judge Ned Mangum.
