Candidate Statement:
Maria Cervania is honored to serve North Carolina House District 41, representing Morrisville and parts of Cary and Raleigh. An epidemiologist and biostatistician, she brings a background in public health, data, education, and local government to the General Assembly. Prior to being elected to the NC House, Maria was a Wake County Commissioner and Cary Vice Chair of the Wake County Democratic Party. Her commitment to public service revolves around using evidence-based approaches, teamwork, accountability, and listening to the voice of constituents. In the NCGA, she supports efforts to improve affordability and health care access, enhance public education, lower the cost of living, protect the environment, and make sure that growth benefits local communities. Maria believes North Carolina can grow and prosper while protecting the quality of life that makes Wake County a great place to call home.
Direct Quote:
Public service is all about listening, being present, and getting the job done. I am dedicated to using the best available data and information, experience, and the input of our community to build a North Carolina where everyone can succeed and thrive.
Issues:
Affordability
The growth of Wake County must improve quality of life without making it unaffordable for families to remain in their communities. My work has been to advocate for sensible solutions to housing and tax issues while protecting important local services. I have been focused on clean air and water, strong infrastructure, affordable energy, and development that pays its own way.
Accessible Health Care
Every North Carolinian deserves access to affordable, high-quality health care. It has been my passion to lower health care and prescription drug costs, protect Medicaid coverage, strengthen rural and safety-net providers, and expand access to preventive, primary, behavioral, and maternal health care. My public health background brings an evidence-based perspective to make our health care system more affordable and accessible.
Strong Public Schools
Strong public schools are essential to strong communities and a strong economy. I believe in fully funding North Carolina's public education system, increasing the salaries of teachers and administrators, attracting top-quality educators, adding more school nurses, psychologists, and counselors, and making sure that all children have access to everything they have the right (under the North Carolina Constitution) to have for success regardless of their ZIP code.
