WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
I specialize in user-centered technology. I am a problem understand-er and solver. I have systems thinking in innovation (138 US patents) and management expertise. I've managed annual revenues of over $1 billion, adding 33% in one year.
I'm running to apply my professional expertise and grassroots experience to elevate Wake County. My skills will complement the rest of our great Commission to address major challenges like affordability, education, healthcare and transit. People-focused systems thinking will break down silos and find efficiencies across County services.
Our residents can not only thrive, they can flourish. I pledge to enhance community, while building human and social capital to improve mental health outcomes.
Direct Quote:
We should not think of this position in isolation. The question voters should ask themselves is "which set of nine people will form the best Commission we can get?" The current Commission has a lot of talent and experience from our school board and town councils, but adding new commissioners with similar backgrounds won't move the needle. In contrast, I am the only candidate whose diverse expertise and experiences will complement the other eight. As one of nine members, I will bring new thinking to the Commission and take our collective decision making to the next level.
Issues:
Public Education & Training in the World of AI
I will ensure our public schools and Wake Tech receive the funding needed to provide quality education. I will work to secure resources for school buildings, operations, and supplements for WCPSS teachers and staff. I am committed to advancing community participation in education by supporting programs like Communities in Schools. I am also committed to preparing and retraining our workforce for jobs in an AI-driven economy. We must educate residents about AI's risks while developing policies that protect privacy, security, jobs, and our communities as this technology evolves.
Housing Access & Quality of Life
Access and affordability can be improved by promoting higher density residences with convenient access to shared spaces like parks and grocery stores. Higher density development with pedestrian-friendly layouts makes walking more pleasant and help build community by enhancing casual interactions between neighbors. Payoffs include increased social capital and mental health plus supports public transportation viability leading to a reduction in the need for single occupancy vehicles. By increasing housing stock in the right areas, we can also reduce per capita traffic, which benefits everyone.
Public Transportation, Microtransit, & The Future
I believe that affordable housing must be well-connected to employment centers through public transit. Much of our affordable housing suffers from inadequate connectivity and constrains work opportunities and access to available services for low-income residents. I will explore all transit options including fixed-route transportation with adequate frequency and coverage, plus point-to-point microtransit for those in need. Looking ahead, I will support efforts to create a light rail system in the Triangle, which will reduce traffic and provide more opportunities for all residents.
