WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
A tenth-generation Eastern North Carolina native, Tim was born and raised in Greenville and Elizabeth City, where he attended public schools. Tim's father was a career public school teacher, inspiring his passion for public education, while his mother works as a physician at a state hospital on the front lines of the opioid and fentanyl epidemics. Tim's family instilled in him a deep commitment to public service.
Today, as a consumer protection lawyer in private practice at a Raleigh law firm, Tim represents ordinary people and small businesses against predatory lenders, scammers, and powerful corporate interests.
Tim was elected to represent House District 34 as one of the youngest members of the General Assembly in 2022. Since he was first elected, Tim has fought for better pay and more resources for teachers and law enforcement, advocated for a government that works for ordinary people and against corruption, and stood up to special interests who seek to benefit themselves at the expense of everyday North Carolinians. Tim is a founding co-chair of the bipartisan Anti-Poverty Caucus.
Tim lives in Raleigh with his wife, Landen.
Direct Quote:
As a State Representative and consumer protection lawyer, Tim has dedicated his life to public service and to fighting for all North Carolinians.
Issues:
Taking on Political Corruption
Tim has taken on corruption in state government. He has pushed against efforts to roll back governmental transparency, engage in gerrymandering for partisan gain, and infringe on separation of powers. Tim believes government should work for the people, not politicians or special interests.
Investing in Our Schools
As the proud product of North Carolina public schools and the son of a career public school teacher, Tim understands how important strong public schools are to North Carolina's future. That's why he has consistently pushed for higher teacher salaries, restoration of master's pay, expansion of the teaching fellows program, better funding for public schools, expansion of early childhood education, bolder investments in our university and community college systems, and universal school breakfast and lunch. Every child in North Carolina has the right to a great education. It's on us to deliver it.
Keeping North Carolinians Safe
Every North Carolinian deserves to be safe and to feel safe in their home and their community.
