As a former Wake County educator and current Chair of the Wake County Board of Education, I bring firsthand classroom experience and a deep commitment to public education. I believe every student deserves to feel seen, valued, supported, and equipped to succeed. My leadership is grounded in listening to families and educators, responsible governance, and making decisions that put students first. I am committed to strengthening our schools, supporting our educators, expanding opportunity, and ensuring every child has the resources they need to thrive.
Direct Quote:
My personal and professional life has been about public service. I would be honored and proud to continue to serve as our community's school board representative.
Issues:
Recruiting and retaining educators
We must recruit and retain high-quality educators and staff. As a former high school teacher, I understand educators' challenges firsthand. As a Board member, I have helped increase compensation, worked to reinstate master's pay locally, and supported our Future Teacher program to build the next generation of educators. I have also worked with county leadership to explore affordable housing solutions for educators. We must continue investing in educators and creating pathways that make Wake County a place where teachers can build lasting careers.
Securing adequate and sustainable funding
We must secure adequate and sustainable funding for our schools. Wake County is a growing and increasingly diverse school system, and our students deserve the resources necessary to succeed. The state has an important constitutional responsibility to provide a sound, basic education, and we must continue advocating for the resources our students and schools need. At the same time, we have a responsibility as a Board to be responsible stewards of local resources and to make thoughtful, strategic investments in our schools, facilities, and students.
Protect the future of public education
We must protect the future of public education. As a former educator and proven school board leader, I have the experience to lead with integrity, build consensus, and turn priorities into action. I will continue advocating for every student's opportunity to receive a high-quality education by supporting educators, protecting student opportunities, engaging families, and ensuring every school is a place where students feel seen, valued, supported, and empowered to thrive. My leadership is focused on results and putting students first.
