WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
Right now, it's clear that Washington isn't working for the American people. It's time to turn the page on this disastrous Republican majority. We've got to stop the chaos and get Congress back to work to make progress for the people. My depth of experience in public service and my work in Congress show that I am ready to push for accountability, transparency, and policies that put people over the billionaires and corporations exploiting our communities.
I will always fight for federal funding to address pressing needs across our district like the millions I brought back this year to help build affordable housing in Durham, improve access to safe drinking water in Orange County, or advance sidewalk construction in Pittsboro and Chapel Hill. I will continue to champion progressive policies like passing Medicare for All, passing legislation to regulate AI, passing the Block the Bombs Act, and more-because that is what the people of the 4th District want from Congress.
Direct Quote:
I'm running because I know what it means to grow up watching your parents work multiple jobs just to get by and how powerful a good education and a strong community can be in changing a child's future. As a mother, a public servant, and a lifelong North Carolinian, I've seen firsthand that when leaders show up and listen, kids and working families thrive. I first ran to be a voice for students who were being overlooked, especially Black and brown children, and that commitment has guided me at every level of service. In Congress, I'm running to keep fighting for opportunity, dignity, and a future where everyone has a fair shot.
Issues:
Addressing the affordability crisis
I believe that residents of NC-04 are currently facing an affordability crisis. The prices of groceries, gas, housing, utilities, and childcare have gotten out of control. In Congress, I am standing up to Trump's tariffs and taking on corporate price gouging that drives up costs. I am also pushing to end Trump's reckless unapproved war, raise the national minimum wage, build more affordable housing, and restore funding for Medicaid and nutrition programs that were slashed by the Big Ugly Bill.
Passing Medicare for All
Access to quality healthcare is a universal right and I will do everything in my power to stop the Republicans' assault on our health care system. In the State Senate, I helped expand Medicaid. In Congress, I am fighting to defend it from Republican cuts. In the next Congress, I want to pass Medicare for All and continue working to stop pharmaceutical companies from price-gouging on lifesaving medications.
Holding bad actors accountable
We have the most corrupt President of all time in the White House. House Democrats are prepared to fully use the power of oversight in the next Congress when we retake the majority. We will regain the trust of the American people by publicly exposing Trump's stock trades, crypto greed, and his politicization of federal agencies for his own gain. It is past time that he and his cronies face consequences for their reckless actions.
