WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
I will bring a unique perspective and deep commitment to the North Carolina House. As a Raleigh native and restaurant manager, I understand the grit required to lead and the economic pressures facing working families. My life is proof that state investments work. I am running to protect the lifelines that served my family, including food assistance, Medicaid, and public education. My work as an organizer for the 2024 presidential campaign helped me find the power in my voice. Now, I want to use that voice for those who feel ignored in Raleigh.
Direct Quote:
I am running to honor the progress leaders from our past built while bringing the new energy needed to keep moving forward. I will be a tireless fighter to expand the lifelines that once saved me and ensure no neighbor is left behind.
Issues:
Affordability
A North Carolinian's ability to stretch a dollar is deteriorating. While the wealthy see record growth, our working class is eroded. Childcare often costs as much as a mortgage, and keeping the lights on is becoming a luxury. We must end the obsession with eliminating the corporate income tax and stop waiting for progress to trickle down. I will fight to eliminate the sales tax on groceries, push for tax reform that shifts burdens away from local governments to bring down property taxes, and raise the minimum wage to ensure Raleigh is a place where everyone can thrive.
Public Education
Public education is the engine of our communities, and we need to honor our constitutional duty to fund it. As a student who found my voice through school-based speech therapy and reading assistance, I know support can be vital to success. I will fight to raise teacher pay to the top of the Southeast and restore funding for the counselors and specialists our students need. We must also expand vocational and technical programs to prepare every student for a high-wage career that fits their ambitions. Every child deserves a foundation that allows them to reach their potential.
Medicaid Expansion
Healthcare is a human right, and it should not be a paperwork nightmare. I want to protect Medicaid expansion from the new red tape that threatens to strip coverage from North Carolinians. I will fight to repeal the trigger laws that threaten to end expansion if federal funding dips below 90 percent. We also have to provide the funding necessary to ensure that federally mandated red tape isn't an obstacle to enrollment. We must ensure the ladder I used as a child remains strong for every North Carolinian, regardless of the political climate in Washington or Raleigh.
