WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
I will bring proven leadership and a strong record of problem-solving to the Wake County Board of Commissioners. As an at-large Raleigh City Councilor and former Mayor Pro Tem, I've worked across communities to strengthen neighborhoods, improve public safety responses, and support local businesses. Now I'm running for Wake County Commission to strengthen public schools, expand housing options, and promote smart, inclusive growth across our county.
Direct Quote:
Wake County is a great place to live and work- to raise a family, educate our children, and enjoy our wonderful parks and greenways. I want to continue the hard work required to keep us moving in the right direction.
Issues:
Public Education
Invest in strong public schools that support teachers, students, and families. As a participant in the Hunt State Policy Fellows program, I understand that our public schools are the foundation of opportunity in Wake County. A large county thrives when it invests in having the best schools and resources, ensuring every student has the opportunity to succeed and contribute to a stronger community.
Smart Growth
Fund affordable housing and advance policies to increase housing supply. Smart growth in our county means ensuring we have affordable housing and adequate housing supply. Promote sustainable growth and development that protects our environment and supports improved transit options. Wake County is one of the fastest-growing areas in the country, and that growth must be planned thoughtfully. Improved transit options will reduce traffic, support environmental sustainability, and help ensure that people of all ages and abilities can move safely and affordably through our communities.
Representation and Inclusion
Ensure county leadership reflects the people it serves. There is presently no LGBTQ representation on the Wake County Commission. If elected, I would be proud to serve as Wake County's only current LGBTQ Commissioner and to advocate for a county where every resident feels safe, valued, and supported.
