WCDP Election Central – Candidate Information

Candidate Statement:
Winn Decker is a public policy professional running for the North Carolina House in southern Wake County. He has built his career working at the intersection of education, workforce, and state policy, partnering with governors, legislators, and local leaders across the country to move ideas from paper to practice. Winn understands how state decisions shape daily life and how often communities are left out of the process. He is running to bring urgency, follow-through, and accountability to state government, and to ensure people have a representative who takes governing seriously and listens to the community.
Direct Quote:
"Too often, people do everything right and still feel like the system is not working for them. Representation should mean showing up prepared, asking hard questions, and staying focused on results. I am running to help make government work better for the people it serves."
Issues:
Cost of Living & Affordability
Families across Wake County are feeling squeezed by rising housing costs, childcare expenses, and everyday necessities. Winn supports policies that lower costs for working families, expand housing options, and ensure growth does not push people out of the communities they helped build. State budgets and tax decisions should make life more affordable, not shift costs onto families and local governments.
Strong Schools
Strong schools are the foundation of opportunity and a healthy democracy. Winn supports fully funding public education, paying educators competitively, and making sure fast-growing districts receive the resources they need. He believes every child deserves access to a strong public school, regardless of zip code, and that public dollars should prioritize public classrooms.
Thriving Communities & Smart Growth
Southern Wake is growing rapidly, but growth must be planned to protect quality of life. Winn supports responsible development that keeps pace with infrastructure, transportation, schools, and public services. State leaders should partner with local governments, not override them, to ensure growth strengthens communities instead of creating congestion, overcrowding, and rising costs.
